Workshop
2:00 - 4:30 p.m.
Connecting Teachers and Technology St. AnthonyFirst
Floor
Presenters: Linda S. Hodges, University of North Texas, Texas Center
for Educational Technology
Kuang-Ting Shiue, University of North Texas, Texas Center for Educational
Technology
Chad Winters, University of North Texas, Texas Center for Educational
Technology
Teaching using multimedia provides opportunities for multidimensional
learning designed for a variety of learning styles and interests.
The Technology Leadership Web Library is designing such online learning
tools. In this workshop, you will have an opportunity to discuss,
question and share experiences about creating multimedia-teaching
materials, making the materials accessible and teaching with multimedia
materials. The presenters will include a curriculum developer, programmer
and videographer. Participants will receive a CD version of the
TL Web Library ADAMs (Activities Designed Around Multimedia) as
well as materials on how to develop your own multimedia materials.
Breakout Sessions
2:00 - 3:00 p.m.
The BT3 Consortium: Building Teams for
Teaching with Technology BowieThird Floor
Presenters: Allison McKissack, PT3 project coordinator, St. Edwards
University
Robin Zuniga, Flashlight Group, Teaching and Learning with Technology
Group
This session will showcase the BT3 Consortium. BT3 is developing
a model for incorporating a hands-on, collaborative technology training
session into the teacher preparation curriculum. Through horizontal
partnerships between schools and agencies and vertical partnerships
between teachers and learners, the Consortium trains intern teachers
in the uses of technology, develops and implements technology-rich
curricula in elementary, middle, and high schools and advances a
collaborative model of teacher preparation.
Integrating Theory and Practice through E-Education
in Teacher Preparation LafitteThird Floor
Presenter: Sue K. Marshall, University of California, Irvine
Participants will learn about the E-Education Program in the Department
of Education at the University of California, Irvine. The interventions
of the E-Education program are all concerned with integrating theory
and practice through the use of pre-service teachers situated
learning in authentic classroom settings. Pre-service teachers engage
in computer-supported, knowledge-building activities in which connections
are made between theoretical perspectives (pedagogic and learning
theory and teaching standards) and instructional practice.
K-12/PS10 Strand (Session 1) GeorgianFirst
Floor
Presenters: TCET Technology Services Division
This special strand has been created to provide technology professional
development for K-12 attendees. Topics and discussions are tailored
to meet the needs and requests from K-12 educators. This strand
will target teachers, technology coordinators and administrators.
Project INSITE: Inventing New Strategies
for Integrating
Technology into Education CoronadoThird Floor
Presenter: Melissa Tothero, University of Texas, Austin
Melissa LeBoeuf Tothero, PT3 Project Coordinator, presents a unique
professional development model for technology integration that provides
support, training and technology tools for UTeach supervising and
mentor teachers. The purpose of the PT3 grant, Inventing New Strategies
for Integrating Technology into Education (INSITE), is to develop
a scalable model of a technology-infused educational program for
the next generation of middle and high school teachers of mathematics
and science. INSITE brings together key players from the core content
courses, professional sequence courses and field experiences, facilitates
collaboration among these key players and provides the technology-related
expertise they need to model exemplary educational technology in
science and mathematics.
PT3: Service Learning and Reverse Mentoring
AlamoThird Floor
Presenter: Amy Leh, California State University, San Bernardino
This presentation explains how service learning and reverse mentoring
are integrated into Educational Technology graduate courses in which
students mentor university faculty of the PT3 project.
Using Computer-Based Modules to Prepare Pre-Service
Teachers
for Future Learning in the School LaSalleThird Floor
Presenters: Chrystal Dean, doctoral student, Mathematics Education,
Vanderbilt University
Lori Tyler, doctoral student, Mathematics Education, Vanderbilt
University
Session reports the results from a pilot study of Web-based modules
in a masters level advanced teaching of elementary mathematics
methodology course. Mathematics methods courses should do more than
try to inform future teachers about content and pedagogy. Teacher
educators have a responsibility to prepare pre-service teachers
for their future learning as classroom teachers. In the context
of computer based modular design (Brofey, 2000), goals have been
developed to bridge this gap between the university and the school
classroom.
Afternoon Break
Anacacho BalconyFirst Floor
3:00 - 3:20 p.m.
Breakout Sessions
3:20 - 4:20 p.m.
CIRCUIT: Collaboration, Inquiry and Reflection
United with Instructional Technology LafitteThird Floor
Presenters: Bill Fisk, Educational Foundations, Clemson University
Chris Peters, Educational Foundations, Clemson University
Anna Baldwin, Project CIRCUIT
This session will present a model that combines inquiry learning,
with collaborative reflective professional practice and use of instructional
technology in an undergraduate teacher training program. The model
will be presented and discussion will follow. Teacher educators
and K-12 teachers with an interest in any of these areas
cooperative reflection, inquiry and technology (especially ISTE
NETS) will benefit by understanding the model and seeing
how it can apply to their situation.
Electronic Portfolios: Triumphs and Troubles
BowieThird Floor
Presenters: Leslie Abarr-Chandler, Northwest Missouri State University
John Fletcher, Northwest Missouri State University
This presentation will be a discussion of electronic portfolios
and how they have been implemented by Northwest Missouri State University.
The discussion will revolve around Northwests experiences
and how other universities might implement similar programs, avoid
pitfalls and make electronic portfolios fit the needs of the institution.
Impact of Student TLC on Faculty Technology
Integration Efforts CoronadoThird Floor
Presenters: Karen Ryan, University of Wisconsin-River Falls
Mary Lundeberg, University of Wisconsin-River Falls
So-young Zeon, University of Wisconsin-River Falls
This presentation will explore the advantages and challenges of
employing pre-service teachers to mentor faculty and teachers in
technology. It will also demonstrate ways in which students in the
Technology Leadership Cadre have benefited the university and schools
and have gained valuable leadership skills.
K-12/PS10 Strand (Session 2) GeorgianFirst
Floor
Presenters: TCET Technology Services Division
This special strand has been created to provide technology professional
development for K-12 attendees. Topics and discussions are tailored
to meet the needs and requests from K-12 educators. This strand

Spreading Technological Wisdom:
PT3 & The University of Colorado at Denver AlamoThird
Floor
Presenters: Judith Duffield, project director, University of Colorado
at Denver
Geraldine DiPalma, project manager, University of Colorado at Denver
Jami Goetz, diversity specialist, University of Colorado at Denver
Susan Borzych, site technician, University of Colorado at Denver
Dianna Lawyer-Brook, evaluator
This is a program to reach six school districts. The vision is to
merge teacher candidates use of technology into every aspect
of their careers. Some teachers are still reluctant to use computers
while other teachers permeate their lessons with computers and classroom
technologies. How can we encourage our future teachers to expand
their own and their students technological skills?
The Technology and Learning Metamorphosis:
Grow Your Own Change LaSalleThird Floor
Presenters: Shannon Parks, Alabama State Department of Education
Stephanie B. Ash, University of Alabama at Birmingham
See how your school/institution can use the AlaPT3 collaboration
model to spawn change and transform the P-20 communitys use
of technology, beginning with the NETS standards. AlaPT3 works in
six areas: a statewide collaboration to develop state technology
standards and resources for teachers and administrators, statewide
technology use assessment, development and implementation of teacher
technology standards, development of a best practices network, development
of the resources and supporting statewide technology initiatives
to sustain the work.
