Upcoming Workshops

May 4 – Austin
Alternative Energy Curriculum - 9:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Anyone around the state is invited to join us for this training hosted at ESC XIII. Alternative Energy seeks to improve Texas students’ understanding of energy, environmental issues and increase their awareness of alternative fuels in their communities. This program begins by introducing physical and chemical principles of energy and fuels, then proceeds to investigations of the nature and extent of energy resources. All 25 lessons are correlated to TEKS and TAKS for eighth grade and IPC.

The workshop is $25. The State Energy Conservation Office will reimburse each participant's district $75 to help offset substitute costs.

June TBD -Fort Worth

Working with informal science programs/Working with girl/youth organizations - The collaborative session is designed to bring Informal Science Educators, Classroom Teachers and Youth Organizations together. Talk to each other and learn how the Out of the Classroom Project, http://www.statweb.org/outoftheclassroom/, is working in Austin and what are the plans for the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.

The Out of the Classroom! Project was initiated by the Informal Science Education Association of Texas (ISEA) through funds from the Austin Community Foundation. The mission of the project is to create and support communities of learning between middle school teachers and informal educators through the development of a web-based resource designed by teachers for teachers. Many middle school teachers find it difficult to take their students on field trips, much less to think of looking to their community for teaching resources.
