UNIT FOUR - CARING FOR OUR WATER

Unit Four Goal: Learners will investigate how to care for water and will share their findings with students at other project schools.


Objective Two:
Learners will discuss pollution in rivers, streams and lakes (also acid rain!), determine ways to prevent this pollution, and share conclusions with other project schools.
Time allowance for activities:
2-3 class periods
Materials:
guest speaker, resources concerning water pollution (videos, books, etc.), various materials for props, videotape and camera
 
Activities Curriculum

1. Have a guest speaker from the Wildlife and Fisheries Dept. talk to the children, including information about fish and birds endangered by water pollution. LA 3.1D, 3.3C

2. Discuss with the class causes of water pollution and the current efforts to control this problem (e.g. proper disposal of car fluids such as oil). Make a mural depicting this situation. SCI 3.1B, 3.8C

3. Have students work in cooperative groups to develop ways to control water pollution. Each group should write one act for a class play. Be certain to allow time to make props. Videotape the presentation of the play. LA 3.3D, 3.12H
