Water Guide UNIT THREE - USING WATER TODAY |
Unit Three Goal: Students will discover and discuss how water is used today in their area and share their findings with project counterparts.

| 1. In order to prepare the children for the trip to the water treatment plant, read a book or show pictures of the plant to preview what they should expect to see at the plant. Include discussion about water treatment and have children anticipate what they might expect to see. | 2. Visit a local water treatment plant. Video tape the visit. Make a summary videotape which can be exchanged to compare water treatment plants in different countries or locations. | TA 11B SCI 3.1A |
| 3. Make a model of the water treatment plant using sand, gravel, etc. This may be done as a whole class activity or in cooperative groups. See Suggested Readings, Water Science, by Deborah Seed, (Addison-Wesley Pub., 1992) for further details. |

| 4. Have the students write one sentence for each of the following three headings. 1 ) A positive thing I found out at the water treatment plant, 2) A negative thing I found out at the water treatment plant, 3) An interesting thing I found out about the water treatment plant.
