UNIT THREE - USING WATER TODAY

Unit Three Goal: Students will discover and discuss how water is used today in their area and share their findings with project counterparts.


Objective One:
Students will name and discuss recreational uses of water in their area.
Time allowance for activities:
4 class periods
Materials:
paper, various materials for presentations, water safety expert

1. In cooperative groups, have students list the recreational uses of water in their area. Have the students make a play, mural, puppets, poster, video, or any other appropriate means to present at least two of the uses to the class. LA 3.12H, 3.4A

2. Have students include in their personal books a list of recreational activities, which involve water. LA 3.14A, 3.14B
3. Invite a water safety person from the Red Cross or some other organization to come and talk to the children about water safety and rescue breathing. LA 3.1D, 3.3C, 3.4A

4. Have the children include in their personal books 5 water safety rules and illustrations, cartoons, and/or poems showing these important rules. LA 3.14A, 3.14B

5. Have the students write a short summary of their presentations and of the water safety rules followed in their area. This will be included in the module summary sent to their electronic mail counterparts. LA 3.14A, 3.14B, 3.14C, 3.14D, 3.12H
