Global Classrooms

Water Guide

The Water Project was originally developed in the fall of 1991 to be taught in the spring of 1992. The participants in this water study included children in classrooms from the United States, the United Kingdom and New Zealand. The children ranged in age from 7 to 11 years. Throughout the study of water, the students shared and compared information and drew comparative conclusions about both content and culture.

While there are many technology-based electronic mail projects currently being used, many of them are focused on the technology rather than the content, the learners, and their learning. In contrast, this project was developed with a curriculum focus, implementing technology to enhance student learning. In 1997-98, there were 48 classrooms in 8 nations included in the Water Project and its companion project, Air.

The Global Classroom Water Guide was originally published in 1993. In 1997, the units were converted to web format and TEKS added. This guide illustrates how TEKS can fit within an existing curriculum.
