Preview Basic Technology Competencies for Educators Inventory (BTCEI)
The Basic Technology Competencies for Educators Inventory (BTCEI) was developed to measure competencies of undergraduate students and post-baccalaureate teachers in education. The BTCEI contains a total of 207 skills categorized into 9 domains using 45 items. The 9 domains of the BTCEI have internal consistency reliability coefficients ranging from .87 to .96 and test-retest coefficients ranging from .77 to .90.
The 9 domains are
Concurrent validity was established using a correlation coefficient between performance based scores and BTCEI scores (r = .62). Construct validity was established by computing a principal component factor analysis with communalities ranging from .70 to .94. Correlations amongst the 9 domains ranged from .41 to .69. Validity and reliability measures for BTCEI scores indicated that it is a useful measure of basic technology competencies of educators. Results from the BTCEI can provide information for professional teacher development and training needs.
