The Verizon Project
Literacy for Special Populations via Technology
In keeping with Verizon's commitment to raise literacy levels, a grant of $61,000 has been provided to TCET to foster relationships and conduct research and development that address the diverse needs of America's students. It will address pressing literacy problems by creating, identifying, and utilizing technological resources for teacher support and student education.
Initially, this project targets student populations with special needs, including students with limited English proficiency and specific need related to organizational and social skills (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Asperger Syndrome (AS)).
Identified students and teachers who teach students in these groups will participate. Dell Pocket PCs will be utilized, along with appropriate software and curriculum. Access to student curriculum and software along with teacher training materials will be available through the TCET Internet portal (STARgate).
