Requirements

Requirements for the BEGIN Scholarship

  • Must be a full-time college sophomore, junior, or senior at a participating higher education institution (Midwestern State University, North Central Texas College, University of North Texas, Vernon College). Post baccalaureate students working on initial teacher certification are also encouraged to apply.
  • Planning to teach math, science, foreign language, or bilingual education at a high-need public middle or high school
  • Must be working on initial teacher certification
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have a green card
  • Must have a GPA of 2.75

It is expected that BEGIN Scholars will do the following:

  • Work closely with an assigned mentor
  • Attend the annual BEGIN mentor-mentee dinner
  • Attend annual BEGIN forums until graduation
  • Attend a 3 day Summer Institute at which time I will learn more about teaching in my field.
