Online Professional Development Courses

The online PD courses are divided by the Technology Applications Standards offsite2.gif (306 bytes) for teachers required by the Texas State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC). These categories are convenient for breaking down a long list of resources, but please consider them guidelines.

Standards VI-XI

Standards I-XI

  = Standards Addressed

Standards I-V = Targets Standards I-V, basic technology skills and technology integration; Standard I-IV parallel the standards for students in grades 6-8;   Standard V addresses pedagogy and professional responsibilities; These standards are expected of ALL beginning teachers and will be incorporated into the new ExCETs for Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities at each certification level
Standards VI-XI = Targets Standards VI-XI, specific advanced skills related to the high school technology application courses, computer science, desktop publishing, digital graphics/animation, multimedia, video technology, and web mastering.
Standards I-XI = Offers a variety of courses that target Standards I-V and Standards VI-XI

For Credit= For Credit

These courses are offered for college credit by accredited colleges and universities.  Other courses without this symbol may be used for teacher recertification, however only those professional education activities from approved registered providers will be accepted for renewal purposes. See the Texas State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC)'s policy offsite2.gif (306 bytes) pdf2.gif (339 bytes)on what fulfills the 150 hour continuing professional education requirement. Be sure to get approval from your school district before registering for these courses.

NOTE: Only certificates issued on or after September 1, 1999 are subject to the certificate renewal guidelines.  According to those guidelines, only those professional education activities from SBEC's approved registered providers will be accepted for certificate renewal purposes. Please check the SBEC web site at: http://www.sbec.state.tx.us/certinfo/certren/certren.htm for complete information and a list of approved registered providers.

If payment for the courses is required, the fee-based symbol will appear.   If there is a free trial course available, it will be listed in the annotations.

Free = Free

Site offers courses (beyond one sample course) that do not require payment.
