Curriculum Connections

Science 3-5

The connections listed in the first table (Direct TEKS Connections) are Science student expectations that directly mention the use of technology (or related terminology). Other resources for teaching Science can be found at the Science Center for Educator Development. off site
Direct TEKS Connections
The introduction to the Science TEKS at all grade levels states that students are expected to "use computers and information technology tools to support their investigations."

3.2A plan and implement descriptive investigations including asking well-defined questions, formulating testable hypotheses, and selecting and using equipment and technology (SC 3.2A, 4.2A, 5.2A, 6.2A, 7.2A, 8.2A) (3-5) 4B, 5A, 7B, 7C
3.4A collect and analyze information using tools including calculators, microscopes, cameras, safety goggles, sound recorders, clocks, computers, thermometers, hand lenses, meter sticks, rulers, balances, magnets, and compasses (SC 3.4A, 4.4A, 5.4A, 6.4A, 7.4A, 8.4A) (3-5) 5A, 6A, 6B, 6C, 7B, 7C
4.2A plan and implement descriptive investigations including asking well-defined questions, formulating testable hypotheses, and selecting and using equipment and technology (SC 3.2A, 4.2A, 5.2A, 6.2A, 7.2A, 8.2A) (3-5) 4B, 5A, 7B, 7C

5.2A plan and implement descriptive and simple experimental investigations including asking well-defined questions, formulating testable hypotheses, and selecting and using equipment and technology (SC 3.2A, 4.2A, 5.2A, 6.2A, 7.2A, 8.2A) (3-5) 4B, 5A, 7B, 7C
5.2E construct simple graphs, tables, maps, and charts using tools including computers to organize, examine, and evaluate information ( color="SC 3.2E, 4.2E, 5.2E) (3-5) 7B, 7C, 10C
5.4A collect and analyze information using tools including calculators, microscopes, cameras, sound recorders, computers, hand lenses, rulers, thermometers, compasses, balances, hot plates, meter sticks, timing devices, magnets, collecting nets, and safety goggles (SC 3.4A, 4.4A, 5.4A, 6.4A, 7.4A, 8.4A) (3-5) 5A, 6A, 6B, 6C, 7B, 7C
Many combinations of connections are possible that use technology to teach Science. We encourage teachers to move beyond the direct mention of technology and make their own connections. The following table (Indirect TEKS Connection) illustrates one Science student expectation that does not specifically mention technology but is easily accomplished with technology. Many others are possible.
