Weather Forecasting

Weather Forecasting
Students collect local weather information over a period of time (minimum -- one week) and create charts. Satellite images are found on the Internet and used to make forecasts.

Students are divided into groups and each group plans the type of local weather information they will collect. Data could include temperature (at certain time, daily highs and lows, etc.), barometric reading, humidity, cloud types, sunrise and sunset times, etc.) Information is collected, inserted in a spreadsheet, and charts are created.
Alternative(s):
Collect weather data from the Internet to complete the assignment for a different location, such as a favorite vacation spot. TA (3-5) 4B

Students use the Internet to find and download satellite images of a selected location. Images are used to predict the weather. Teams will write justifications for their predictions based on the satellite images. Predictions will be compared to actual weather events.

Students exchange local weather information with another class via e-mail. TA (3-5) 8AC
Students create a video/live broadcast of a weather report based on data they have collected. Use a multimedia or presentation program to create graphics.
Alternative(s):
Create a specific weather forecast for a specific event or day such as fishing, football night, etc.
